Is it so surprising that Peter and the others thought that Jesus was a ghost walking across the lake? We will think of any weird and silly thing before we grasp the fact that Jesus comes to us whenever we are in trouble. Holy Spirit, give us the gift of faith.

The faith journey is a wondrous trip to take. Every day brings new sights and sounds, new people and new things about people we know. Each day brings new ways to be closer to God and new ways to push God away. It’s a journey that I want to share with you. Together we can get to where we need to be.

In a general audience at the Vatican on July 28, 1993, Pope John Paul II said that a priest “ought to refrain from actively engaging himself in politics, as often happens, in order to be a central point of spiritual fraternity.” We ministers need to focus on unity and community.

This is an important episode in that Hilary Chester really helps us understand just how devastating the U.S funding cuts have been to Jesuit Refugee Services specifically and to those providing aid and comfort to refugees, migrants, hungry, unhoused people all over the world generally.

In the Vigil readings from the Mass last night, Jesus tells Peter three times to take care of the people if he loves Jesus. Three times. Who am I feeding? Who am I visiting? Who am I helping, healing, and housing? Who am I welcoming and including? Three times.

I know this is too late and irrelevant, but I just finished A Man Called Ove and I really loved it.

Has probable cause been suspended? People can now be arrested by association?

This is important. People support these draconian policies and actions (policies are normally thought out - that didn’t happen here) because they bought into the hateful rhetoric which relied on false premises. And it wasn’t that hard to know the truth. Shameful.
