This is an ID photo of Audre Lorde in Mexico where she fled as a student in response to McCarthyist repression. This solstice we are drawing on the student activist Audre, the surveilled suspended protesting sci-fi reading Audre who believed in other worlds and another version of this one.

Like many of you, I was furious to see a transphobic rich white person use a quote from Audre’s Lorde’s “A Litany for Survival” to justify her hateful and harmful attacks against trans women. I don’t play about my beloved community and I know you don’t either.

When Audre Lorde was a teenager she was terrified of nuclear war, hungrily reading as much science-fiction as she could find and writing poetry that imagined not only other worlds but other forms of living. sangodare.podia.com/wild-hope-a-...
