Over 8 hours sharing MN’s stories about how they have been affected by gun violence & pushing for a vote on a common sense gun violence package. Students, parents, grandparents, & MNs from all walks of life have been here today in support. When you pray, move your feet!

Many of you have asked how you can support the gavel to gavel sit-in my DFL House colleagues are doing to demand action on gun violence prevention, here is one way to do that. Come to the Capitol at 4:30 pm!

Yesterday, I also met with Mayor Nadia Mohamed who was here representing Cites for Safe and Stable Communities as well as St Louis Park. We discussed the need for increased funding to cities due to costs and fallout from Metro Surge.

The MN House on Monday we passed a bi-partisan bill to provide our public K-12 schools increased $$ from the School Land Trust Account. An extra $40+/student w/ a YES vote on a constitutional amendment this fall. Thank you to all those who helped get this across the finish line!

Today started out w/ AFSCME members who work in direct care & treatment, Tax Committee (presented a bill for Hopkins), a meeting w/ MN Independent College & Communities, Donors Choose, & Dan Homan w/Citizen’s Climate Lobby. Finished w/ an amazing dinner @ Pink Ivy w/Jacques 😊.

Monday was a full day in Ways & Means with 10 bills proposing Local Optional Sales Tax, 12+ bills on the House floor (mostly bipartisan), and a good visit with the Coalition for Children with Disabilities.

High school students Edhita (Edina) & Jonathan (Eagan) shared the opportunity that HOSA has provided in exploring the medical professional field while in High School. Edhita is thinking of going into surgical medicine and Jonathan in epidemiology.

Tues., Wed., & Thurs. was busy w/ committee hearings before policy deadlines. But, I had the chance to meet w/ folks advocating for funding on disability day, Children’s First folks focused on our kids, MAPE on fair wages, & Vail Place here advocating for mental health supports.

Monday started out w/ a visit from MN Assoc. of Clinical Oncology re: need to reform prior authorization. After committee, & before session, I met a dedicated group of social service workers, constituents advocating for access to reproductive care & Maxine w/SEIU on fair wages.

The final call for Deputy Fire Marshall Shawn Johnson was today @ Hopkins Center of the Arts. Deputy Johnson served the Minnetonka Fire Dept. for 2 decades & recently died from cancer. Thank you to his family for sharing him w/ the fire fighter community & for his public service.

Started out Thursday speaking at the Children First Breakfast & hearing from their amazing Youth for Change students, presented a bill in Taxes to exempt AmeriCorps stipends from income tax, & then met dedicated folks from Moms Demand Action for sensible gun violence prevention.

Wednesday I had the chance to meet w/a dedicated team from Teach for America, meet on two issues before tax committee, & some wonderful Adult Basic Education teachers. Finished the day the amazing Hopkins Councilmember Heidi Garrido @ the Capitol advocating for our community 😊!

Tuesday I met with an amazing Community Educators from St Louis Park, a small but mighty group advocating for accessible healthcare, & an owner of a day care in St Paul for childcare day. Highlight was connecting with Betsy Holmgren on the need for access to Alzheimer’s treatments!

Thank you to St Louis Park and Edina Superintendents, schoolboard members, and staff that visited the Capitol on Monday to advocate for our students and the supports they need in our schools!

Full green board tonight as we honored Melissa Hortman by naming our state solar program after her ❤️! Legislation she authored and championed, helped to create the solar industry that we see in Minnesota today.
