Broadway Junction is undergoing the biggest ADA upgrade in the system right now: a new entrance, three escalator replacements, and seven new elevators. Crews hit a major milestone, lifting elevator frames from street level all the way up to the elevated platform without disrupting weekend service.

We unleashed Darth Vader — the LIRR’s most powerful snow fighter in the galaxy (okay, the system) — to blast through 25+ inches of snow drifts on the East End.

The blizzard may be slowing down, but we haven’t taken a snow day. Our crews have been out since yesterday clearing platforms, deploying de-icers, and ensuring that our trains and buses can travel safely during the storm. We’re grateful to our frontline employees for keeping the city moving.

The snow came. The city kept running. MTA crews kept more than 2,300 buses and 4,400 subway and Staten Island Railway trains moving through the storm. Janno was out there too, checking in with teams that kept New York moving.

LIRR crews used salt, heat, and jet-powered snow blowers to keep trains moving yesterday. Yes, jet-powered. The railroad has seven rail-bound jet blowers — repurposed jet and helicopter engines — that blast snow and ice clear of switches and the third rail.

MTA Chair Janno Lieber continued his storm prep tour today at the Flatbush Bus Depot, where crews are chaining buses ahead of Sunday’s snow.
