Tip I learned years ago from a longtime organizer who is also an attorney: If you are not sure if a person approaching you is a cop, and you do not feel safe, drive to the nearest *fire department* and call 911 and tell them (don't ask) that you're stopping for the cop at a FD. Here's why.

Per the story, he was told prior to the graduation that it would be fine for him to bring his baby. Then, when he arrived with the baby, was told it wasn't. Just. WTF. When you made it through college as a parent and you bring your baby in a tiny cap and gown it is ADORABLE.

Oh, but also, make sure you've penciled this in: our June show is June 1, doors at 6, show at 7. $10 in advance/$15 at the door, the check I get from the BLB gets an even three way split between me and the other performers.

My biggest downfall is that I cannot find it within myself to be consistent on social media anymore, which is probably not great for an arts organizer. Can I frontload that work for next season? Probably!

Today I sent out tech requests to BLB for our June show, and started reaching out to potential performers for next season's shows. If you're curious how I choose who I invite, I look at my friends lists, I think about people whose work has affected me, and I get recs from other performers.

We'll forgo our typical ironclad shield of objectivity and state outright: bummer. Southwest Voices and Downtown Voices, sister publications launched by Charlie Rybak under the banner of Minneapolis Voices, have jettisoned their founding editors.

It’s birthday weekend. I have the excuse that I get to treat all of my various friends groups to cakes. For the gaming crew, a coconut earl grey cake. Probably will throw a glaze on it when it’s cooled.

You'll have to wait for July's show to hear Caly (feel better soon!) but I promise it'll be worth the wait. In the meantime- I get to hang out with two of my pals from Slam Days Past.

I tend to not be great at remembering names, but I am really really good at paying attention to who you say you are and the things you make and do and want to do. I will forget your name but I will remember your amazing earrings or your talent for improv or baking or programming prowess.

I almost never want a video tutorial. I do not want to sit through ads, I do not want to have to try to pause to see how you've got things aligned, I do not want to have to write down ingredients. If I admit it, I want a book that sits on a shelf or lays open on a table and doesn't "go to sleep".
