I've always said game development is like building puzzles except you're the one cutting all the little pieces and putting the image of a horse on the front. And sometimes bits of Train Puzzle gets in because you found a locked Reddit thread from 2015 with your specific problem. It's fun!

It's probably just me, but my brain hurts if I click on a textbox and it opens up a new window, blurs the background, and provides me with a new textbox, instead of just letting me type in the original textbox. (And the search requires the use of asterisks to search anything not exact).

There are voice actors who will voice your stuff for free. Imma repeat myself for any Dev/Creator that is considering AI. THERE ARE VOICE ACTORS WHO WILL VOICE YOUR STUFF FOR FREE. Signed, a voice actor who did voice act FOR FREE for almost NINE YEARS. Don’t make excuses. Stick to human talent.

Unfortunately, @itch.io is overrun by slop. The assets are slop, the tools are 'vibecoded'. It's an endless stream of spam which takes away visibility from great human-made creations. It's honestly just a sad state, anything you can do - itch?

I made a post about this on mastodon a while ago, it was driving me crazy too!! You can change the shortcuts in the editor settings: ui_text_completion_replace (defaults to enter) ui_text_completion_accept (defaults to shift+enter) To me,mapping "accept" to Enter feels nicer! #Godot #GameDev #Tip

First off, this game jam was super fun! I learned a lot - Blender, UV unwrapping (I still don't quite get it), and moving stuff in a 3D space. The camera positioning was actually the EASY part. The hard bit was getting the dang rat to move in a way that I wanted and, amazingly, I gave up!

I'm doing suspiciously well for someone who's idea of version control is "hit ctrl+z a bunch and pray"

It's crazy how many nodes you create in Godot once you're working on a proper game. I get the feeling it doesn't hurt to be efficient with them.

I feel like even using gen ai for place holders is a disservice developers. What's wrong with having walls with flat textures, or obvious place holder mannequins? Are you afraid your beta testers will assume your vision is a floor with grid lines?
