there's a fun way to distinguish them. we can distinguish owls and night owls based on the shape of Hanguel, the Korean letter. if the ear tufts are pointed like the shapes of ㅂ, it's an owl; if they're round without ear tufts like ㅇ, it's a night owl.

fun fact: unlike Korean doesn't distinguish crows and ravens accurately, (both are called 까마귀ggamagwi commonly) but it does differentiate between owls(부엉이bueung-i) and night owls(올빼미olbbaemi)! we tell them apart by the presence or absence of ear tufts.
