If the Supreme Court votes to repeal birthright citizenship it must be understood as a yet another vote to repeal themselves as justices. A Supreme Court seat doesn’t carry the power to overturn the Constitution. Elected leaders and citizens both must recognize all six of them as illegitimate.

If they rule against the 14th Ammendment the states have every right to declare they shall no longer abide by the courts rulings. There is ZERO ambiguity about the 14th. If you are born here, you are a citizen.

Awful. A teenager, dead by suicide in an ICE detention center. There is now a crisis of suicide inside the detention system; I have never seen anything like it. Suicide has happened before, but they were very rare. This is the third or fourth this year.

This is not about open borders or abolishing ICE. Congress has a legal obligation to provide oversight of ICE. Right now, that oversight is completely absent while people die in federal custody at a historically alarming rate.

ICE detention deaths are now occurring at a rate of roughly one every four days. Three weeks ago that rate was one every six days. The pace is accelerating, and Congress has not launched a single investigation.

Royer Perez-Jimenez was 19 years old. He died by suicide at 3am on March 16 at Glades County Detention Center in Florida. He is the 2nd person to die in ICE custody this week, the 13th this year, and the 42nd under Trump. 🧵
