"When a car blocks a bike lane", says our Director of Advocacy Claire Amable, "cyclists have to veer around that car into traffic, which can be going as fast as 40 miles an hour." Physical infrastructure to protect bike lanes is hands down the best way to protect people biking.

SFBike is shutting down business as usual today for staff to stand in solidarity with those fighting systems of oppression in Minnesota, the U.S., and worldwide, by participating in the national day of action.

On Friday, we launched the signature campaign for Connect Bay Area, a five-county transit funding measure headed for the November 2026 ballot. I wrote the legislation, and @connectbayareatransit is collecting signatures right now to qualify this measure for the ballot.

A thriving downtown SF doesn't have to mean more traffic congestion if we continue to invest in sustainable transportation investments that get more people using active transportation and transit to move around the city.

We learned yesterday that a man riding on a bike was struck and killed late on Sunday, November 16, by a person driving a car, at Alemany and Naglee in the Outer Mission. The person driving the car fled the scene, but a suspect has been apprehended by SFPD.

fyi – SF's speed cameras will begin issuing fines starting tomorrow. Speeding is the #1 cause of severe and fatal crashes on our streets, and early data shows that daily speed warnings are dropping up to 34% at some intersections. These cameras are slowing down our streets and saving lives. 👏

Mayor Lurie’s decision to permit AVs onto Market St makes the corridor significantly more dangerous for people walking, biking, scooting, and taking transit. Kid Safe SF, the SF Bicycle Coalition, SFTR, and Walk SF joined together to denounce this decision and advocate to keep Market St car-free.

Before car-free Market Street, half of the city’s ten most dangerous intersections were on Market Street, with almost three people injured each week on average. Mayor Lurie should focus efforts on increasing foot traffic, not vehicle traffic. @kidsafesf.bsky.social @sfbike.org @sftru.bsky.social
