Mass Effect will firmly remain an all-time personal favourite series. ME2 is cemented in my top 5 games of all time, but good grief does this particular post from an excellent thread smash undoubtedly valid critique out the park

If anything, Mass Effect might allow you to make reprehensible choices but it also is very much okay with telling you how it feels about the paragon/renegade binary regardless (to a fault, in that theres not really much friction to paragon runs). Its a messy series, but thats why its interesting imo

*turns my English major into attack position* all works of art, even art you absolutely love, is deeply flawed through an innumerable number of lenses and you must interrogate the belief that engaging with flawed art is a negative reflection upon the self

Either celebrate games as art, or drop the pretence. There’s not really a middle ground.

Think of how many games where the verb is violence. How many games (including the ones nominated for tonight’s BAFTA awards) where you shoot, fight, kill. But when games want to explore the topic of violence in a meaningful way, that’s the issue?
