Let’s be clear: Trump is weaponizing the horrific murder of Charlie Kirk to attack his critics, silence dissent, and escalate his assault on the First Amendment. We fought a revolution to guarantee free speech in America. We’re not going back.

What we are witnessing is an outright abuse of power. This administration is attacking critics and using fear as a weapon to silence anyone who would speak out. Media corporations — from television networks to newspapers — are capitulating to these threats.

A free and democratic society cannot silence comedians because the President doesn’t like what they say. This is an attack on free speech and cannot be allowed to stand. All elected officials need to speak up and push back on this undemocratic act.

Suddenly "hate speech" is bad. Suddenly "dehumanizing" people is bad. Suddenly "cancel culture" is good. Suddenly words have consequences. The modern American right in 2025, folks.

This is absurd. It's also worth noting that it's deeply racist. Considering how much racial profiling there already is around the detainment and arrest of Black and Brown people, this is yet another way of inappropriately "adultifying," unfairly persecuting, and abusing children of color. Children.

So wait a minute, this is crazy, but everything is SO on fire that the news about indiscriminately killing people on boats in the Caribbean seems like it's just....not getting discussed that much? We are randomly? Murdering? People? With literally no evidence of anything? FOR BEING BROWN ON A BOAT?

The free speech activist who built a list of professors he worked to get fired for their speech must be celebrated for his support of free speech, and anyone who quotes his speech accurately in context will be fired and/or face state punishment by the champions of free speech, do I have that right?

This may explain why there’s an aggressive response to people who merely post Kirk’s own words. It threatens the existence of the alternate Kirk - the motivational speaker that had been marketed to young kids and white Christian groups through selective quotation & clips.

I shouldn't be shocked, but I'm still always brought up short to realize how many people think "civility" means "white people speaking in relatively calm voices" no matter what vile shit they say.

Watching all these centrist pundits stress the “civility” of Charlie Kirk’s style without addressing the ugliness of his substance is giving me a renewed appreciation of how the civil, polite White Citizens’ Councils conned the same crowd into thinking they were distinct from the cruder Klan.

I have written and deleted a lot of posts but I keep thinking about how the brutal assassination of Minnesota State senator Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark, and their beloved dog Gilbert in June did not prompt this same level of calls for empathy, sympathy, and flags at half-mast.

Once again @hcrichardson.bsky.social the truth teller, telling the truth. I had one of those apocalyptic dreams last night, we were all hiding in community from giant flaming projectiles falling from the sky. 😬
