After listening to this episode I immediately went to the Cocaine & Rhinestones episode on Bobbie Gentry that
@andrewhickey.500songs.com
recommends and that is an excellent listen too!

For years, but especially for the past year, Democrats have been in thrall to the idea that they need to chase an imagined median voter, and adopt that voter’s positions. Mamdani’s victory shows another way: hold principles, and persuade people to share them.

If Trump and other autocrats are to be defeated, it will be by bold, bright, anti-establishment candidates, who speak for those who struggle with enormous rents, failing public services, lousy pay and insecure, unsatisfying jobs, rather than for those inflicting these miseries.

And going "We will simply have more growth if people work harder" is magic thinking with no basis in reality. You get growth when money is in the pockets of people who spend it, not being hoarded by a tiny minority. This is why every sector is struggling and businesses everywhere are failing.

The Wilbury Twist is a fun song to end on. There is such a great spirit to The Travelling Wilburys even when they're singing cynical words. It's no wonder they all loved doing it so much

As an opening line, "you took my breath away. I want it back again" really makes me laugh. And then the harmonies are so beautiful I feel bad for laughing!
