Honestly, it's just Hipkins' politics for me. He or his staff told me last year in an email response that their plan to fight transphobia was to avoid a culture war. I had told him that I know trans people who have been assaulted. It was somewhat personalised response, so they just ignored that bit.

So many long term Labour supporters have said they're deciding to not vote for Labour for the first time, the only people who actually seem to think Hipkins is good are Labour sycophants and Labour members, though I have spoken to one member who wants him gone & believes Hipkins is too conservative.

This is more an admission than an excuse: Labour deliberately distored its selection processes in order to provide deniability to a potential candidate, allowing them to continue in their job.
