Tigers OF Matt Vierling has won the Dan Ewald Award from Detroit chapter of BBWAA. Named after former longtime Tigers media relations director, the award goes to the uniformed individual on team who best exemplifies cooperation and professionalism with the media. Jake Rogers was a close second.

The Tigers have added Tyler Mattison to their 40-man roster. He missed all of 2024 after TJ surgery, but when healthy he’s a power reliever who can miss bats with three pitches. Tigers added RHPs Chase Lee, Tyler Mattison and Tyler Owens to 40-man roster, protecting them from Rule 5 Draft. INF Eddys Leonard and RHPs Ricky Vanasco and Brendan White DFAed. Mattison is interesting in that he had Tommy John surgery in March. Lee and Owens came from Texas at Trade Deadline.

The Tigers also added RHPs Tyler Owens and Chase Lee today. Both were acquired from the Rangers at last year’s trade deadline. Owens can reach the upper 90s and throws a slider, cutter, and split change. Lee is a sidearmer with a high-80s fastball and a high-spin slider.
