Highlights from this morning’s trip to the Upper Hollowfields Farm, North Worcs to seek White-letter Hairstreak which was a success. Took a couple of hours but the Elms provided! The rest per alt desc. - all 3 Skippers and a few day flying moths 👌👌

Just 85/20 overnight in our garden in North Worcs VC37. Clear skies probably didn’t help. Nothing exciting. The first Common Footman, Broad-bordered YU (the one in combat fatigues) and a rather nice Acleris forsskaleana

From old notebooks going back to 1976, I used to record 30 plus Swift over the garden at home in N London. An hours evening Sky watching from my Mums garden & got 6 so not too bad. RN Parakeets & Red Kite would’ve been bonkers then. 10 House Sparrows still in the same hedge 40 years ago

This weekend, UK birdwatchers will be counting Wetland Birds for
@btobirds.bsky.social
@rspb.bsky.social
@jncc.bsky.social
. With most waders away, breeding, this is a great opportunity to count non-breeding 'teenagers'. Why are they important?

It’s a core count for WeBS tomorrow. Sites are available for Worcestershire (couple of examples attached). If you fancy contributing to some important citizen science (and are a Worcestershire birder) see link in bio on sites available

During another absence from social media (highly recommended for sanity purposes) I got this last week in the garden VC37. Grey Arches - first for me. More of a woodland species apparently but would be interesting to know who else has had one and status generally
