Trying out a new way of embryo mounting for transgenic injections today! 🐛🔬

So when #galleria emerge as adults the pupal case always splits in a consistent fashion to allow the adult to crawl out. However until I looked a bit closer today I’d never realised quite how cool the structure is that allows this - as if they unzip themselves!

One of my images won the Scottish Microscopy Society Image Prize at their annual symposium! It’s a 2mm thick abdominal section of the wax moth larva, Galleria mellonella, stained with propidium iodide. The 3 silk gland loops make a sad face peering through the cleared tissue. #FluorescenceFriday
