Got to dive back into working on my authors' MS today after some time off for the holidays and it was SO much nicer to dive back into than last year, going back to gaslighting, early mornings, shitty managers and numbing work. I am so energized, elated and feel *good*. I'm so fucking grateful. 😭

It's truly something to realize that my toxic academia job really *was* toxic. Having my best writing year/finishing a new book in the same year I finally left after being there a decade and not writing anything new during the entire time I was employed by my university? That's no coincidence.

One of my delulu hopes this year is to earn enough from book sales each month to be able to pay a bill. My lowest monthly bill is $52 a month. Last year, I averaged $8 a month, with my highest single month being $22. Like I said. Delulu! 💀

I'm gotten in the habit of staying up until 3:30 in the morning and sleeping until 1pm over the holidays and I need to switch back to a more reasonable working schedule on Monday and I am dreading it lol Why am I like this 🫠

2025 was a Year™️where personally, I grew in ways I didn't think possible (quit academia! full-time editor! wrote a new book!), struggled in both unanticipated ways (partner's organ failure! losing insurance!) and ways that've always haunted me (depression! feelings like a fraud! body dysmorphia!).

Getting a new inquiry for editing and seeing one of my current authors' names on the "where did you hear about me" question is a thrill I'll never get over. I love my authors so much 😭

You don't need AI as an indie author, you need community. You need people who can help you when you're burning out (and vice versa, importantly). Trade labor with each other, beta read for one another, connect with editors and cover artists. Teach & learn. Help promote one another.
