“Refusing to harden your heart is a radical act.” “And who is my neighbor?” With this Sunday’s story in the Gospel of Luke (which we often call The Good Samaritan), I am thinking again gratefully of the work of @artofmarza.bsky.social , whose art keeps reminding me of Jesus’ call to care for all.

Speak truth to power. Even if it kills you. I have always been fascinated by the beheading of Saint John the Baptist, and Saint John in general. Similar to Christ’s face imprinted on the towel, there is something surreal about icons that feature only a head.

Saint Panteleimon on the night shift. I drew this at my dad’s bedside. This modern rendition of one of my favorite saints is dedicated to the nurses and doctors working hard to make my dad better. Inspired by seeing nurses & doctors taking breaks by the window in the ICU hallway.

Saint Olympia the Deaconess She was a dear friend and student of Saint John Chrysostom. Saint John wrote to her during his exile to encourage her as she was persecuted by the Church and falsely accused of crimes.

Remember the end of “A Bug’s Life”? When the ants realized that all together they were stronger than one big grasshopper bully? And so there was no reason for them to let the bully order them around? And that the bully *knew this all along* and his whole operation was to keep them from seeing it?

Christ the Outcast

Ever wonder why we dye eggs red for Pascha? The red symbolizes Christ’s blood shed for us. There are a few traditions about the pascha eggs involving Mary Magdalene. The one I grew up with was that Mary Magdalene put a basket of eggs at the foot of the cross and Christ’s blood flowed onto the eggs.

This Palm Sunday piece is not a triumphant or joyous one. Inspired by The Chosen S5, Christ enters on the donkey w/ his disciples, and the smile on His face fades. He begins to dissociate, grow anxious, and see blood seeping from the walls of Jerusalem, for He knows what is coming and it haunts Him.

Wow I did not expect this to get a lot of attention lately haha. Unfortunately I am sold out of the stickers, but I do have shirts!!!

We celebrate the death of death. I combined elements from Holy Friday and Holy Thursday into this sticker. We adorn the tomb of Christ with roses on Holy Friday and we throw bay leaves to celebrate Christ’s victory over death with bay leaves on Holy Saturday. Stickers are available at artofmarza.
