Very pleased to receive this extraordinary labour of love from Andrew Sandoval and Doug Hinman. It’s the last word on the Kinks and a must for any komitted fan. Doug was very helpful to me when I wrote the Official Biography 42 years ago

Bought OTD in 1969 - the second double album I ever had. I was in a major Who phase - and would shortly see them - so this was a revelation. Programmatic, inconsistent but some cracking tunes (Sally Simpson, Pinball Wizard, I’m Free) and in the 10 minute Underture, beautiful understatement

Talking with a friend this morning about how great and pertinent this song is: great Lowrey organ, early use of rhythm machine, lyrics inspired by another American mess, Vietnam. (B side of single, Funky Me, is ace too)

Bought OTD in 1972: under a quid, the early seventies were a great time to find sixties lps cheap. Not my favourite Kinks album - that’s Face to Face - as the harking back is a bit cloying, but some terrific songs: Walter, Johnny Thunder, Big Sky, Starstruck, plus the rock out Wicked Annabella

Bought OTD in 1968: their best and most psychedelic (the two may be connected). Sunshine is the ur-rock riff but Strange Brew and the menacing We’re Going Weong are its equal. Heavy psych on Brave Ulysses (Early wah wah) and the ecstatic Dance The Night Away. The rest is blues and novelties .
