Third game of City Trial in Kirby Air Riders and it glitched out. I was completely stuck for most of the match. Until I hit time up, and then I was freed, but only in super slow mode (and didn't get to the minigame). Only glitched again when I tried to change bikes and got stuck. Very weird!

A brand new manga magazine launches next month in Japan! Corociao! Taking the best of Corocoro and Ciao magazines, and making this hefty new magazine. Issue 1 launches on December 19, 2025 for 1280yen. It's an "irregular" released magazine, so no word on when issue 2 will release.

The best chance for a new competitor in anime streaming that is “built by fans” needs to break into the Japanese Live Action TV streaming market in the next year. Become established with the JPN broadcasters and then expand into anime for new simulcasts once you prove you can do it.

It's going to be really exciting to start updating these Manga Allman articles on Manga Properties. Since back in August 2024 when they first launched I now have so many blanks to fill in for the covers, TOCs, and lost/forgotten manga oneshots. A treasure trove of new information.

Fresh Jump is pretty well documented, due to how many famous mangaka had works published in it. Still worth collecting that info all in one place one day. Since author comments like this show there might be some more secrets hidden in there. A mystery for another day!

"Ne Zha 2" will be streaming on Rakuten Viki soon. That's kinda a crazy big pull for them! Ne Zha 2 is currently the highest-grossing animated film of all time. And only came out earlier this year.

Manga was originally created by Mitsuteru Yokoyama, which had a huge list of influential series like Tetsujin 28, Giant Robo, Sally the Witch and of course this Masked Ninja Akakage! But this adaptation might be spoiled by having AI Machine Translation (and on the expensive JME service).

I'm happy that I've been able to keep pretty much all of Patch Cafe up and running since 2011. I do want to migrate some additional back catalog from the previous site (SKN) onto it at some point as well. Had to take the hard road losing data before that to get a structure in place that stands today

My prediction for the end of the "Ping Pong Peril" manga: That is an AI controlled robot, which first trained on Pong, and is looking for the best human opponents to beat it. It considers money to basically be a "score" for this game on Earth.

It occurred to me that there should've been a Corocoro license in that recent Viz licenses for summer 2026. Like "Fate Rewinder" or the "Shadow the Hedgehog" manga series. I wonder if Shogakukan/Corocoro might be partnering with Graphix/Scholastic to get English print releases for these?

I'm happy to see that JME is finally adding some more English subtitled shows... But that disappointment is slashed with their latest use of AI for translation. Especially if their new line-up is strong character dramas. AI isn't a replacement for that human touch.

Glad to see that "Kimengumi" is getting a new anime series. But I wonder who is paying for it? Typically if its anniversary-related we would have a longer distance between announcement and airing for the anime. The website isn't cross promoting products or the manga volumes. Kinda odd!

Kodansha has launched their "Kodansha Manga Academy" website! It's a pretty slick website and will also be part of the new "Kodansha Manga Award" that will be coming in 2026. You can also read "A Mangaka's Road to Japan" manga for free as new chapters come out.

While working on supplemental research for upcoming articles I always got to keep looking up if I have a copy of that specific Jump seasonal issue being referenced. For quite a few, it's not the one I need. But I finally landed on one that I do own! Finally paid off having a physical copy!

It was surprising to find that Yudetamago's "Yūrei Kozō ga Yattekita!" manga was so heavily influenced by Shigeru Mizuki. Maybe the most Shigeru Mizuki-styled manga in all of Weekly Shonen Jump?

Kodansha is really stepping up it's game this year with reaching out and expanding manga worldwide. Young Magazine USA, Mochikomi Fresh Ink manga reviews, Kodansha House, and developing a new manga award next year. A ton of year-long efforts that look to be paying off!

It seems like the catalog is "wide but not deep." A lot of titles, but most aren't the entire story. Feels more like you are paying for extended samples/previews, not a commitment to getting to the end. It forces you to leave the new platform to continue reading something you may enjoy.

Uhh... Good luck for the Crunchyroll Manga (v2) launching tomorrow... Almost one of the worst times the launch. But maybe it will be the big win they need right now. One can hope for it to be a fantastic service with lots of content ready for day one!

I do want to shout out Neon Ichiban's implementation of manga publisher sales. Clean layout, unique URL, filter and search only on sale titles (!), and all titles in order (by series and volume). Kodansha frequently has sales, and this is the best way to view them that I've seen! Great job!

I came across this issue cover online yesterday which was very interesting. The cover of this Big Comic issue from 1971 features the cover of an English "international edition" of Big Comic for what appears to be the same issue. Was this ever published? I can't find anything about it.

I feel like I need to talk about how amazing "Chihayafuru: Full Circle" really is. I just don't know how/where to say it. The original live action movie trilogy is one of my favorite sets of films. This show surpasses that. I need to just gush about this somehow!! This is when I need a podcast😅

After finishing the amazing Chihayafuru: Full Circle... "Tokyo Tarareba Girls" coming to Netflix next month is a great second hit. This was one of my favorite live action adaptations, and I've been waiting to watch the sequel special! Maybe I do need to watch it again...
