This is a good, concise read of a project I was involved in that didn't pan out. Especially appreciate the analysis portion, and want to admit that I am also guilty of lacking discipline.

I don't mind writing but I DO mind reading what I've written and unfortunately revisions do require that as part of the process.

Marcella Althaus-Reid kind of turned me off with her voyeuristic style, so I never read very far into her work. This is proving to be a bit of a problem now though. Second chance time for Marcella!

So grateful to have my first-ever fiction piece "Lighthouse" published in The Lindenwood Review! This tiny flash story has been 9 years in the making and I'm so glad it found a home.

Reading some shit from the social sciences about how kids decide which college to attend. The established literature does not seem to factor in "I must get as far away from my family as I can," "I need to be the most unique person in this graduating class" or "I've been deported--now what"?

They are places I haven't been, languages I don't speak, foods I haven't tried, books I haven't read, and people I haven't met. I wake up every day excited to learn about the world and the things in it. What separates me (and us!) from the gutter racists is that we see existence as joyful.

People have worn out "performative." We often perform things that are real, you know. Posting is a kind of performance of one's politics. Performative doesn't actually mean "fake" or "empty," it just gets deployed that way. We actually need performance. Case in point: last night's performance.

But having a bunch of fun and making important memories. College is such a magical time for human development (young people learning how to be independent, with new peers from all over!), I want nothing more than to get a permanent job to keep teaching students at this life stage forever!
