You’ve heard of tsunamis before, but we bet you didn’t know they could be underwater and created by calving icebergs? 🌊 Like icebergs, much of a glacier is hidden under water so huge chunks of ice can break off, or calve. And when they do, they send shockwaves throughout the water.

Sponge spicules, composed of silica, in thin section. The ornate end structures are used to attach one spicule to another to form an internal skeleton that is flexible enough to sway and bend in flowing water (from Three Kings Islands seafloor, northernmost NZ). ⚒️🧪🌊
