Take a train between Wapping and Rotherhithe stations and you are travelling under the Thames on the world's first (now oldest) tunnel under a river. Constructed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and father Marc. Originally opened for pedestrians in 1843 and for railway in the 1860s.

An ancient forest at Tripcock Ness in the London Borough of Greenwich. Well-preserved tree stumps and other plant material emerge from clay and silt. The forest is probably at least 3,000 years old. Read more at londongeopartnership.org.uk/wp/wp-conten... #londongeology

Circinaria (Aspicilia) calcarea on limestone plinth, London, England. Heavily mollusc-browsed but still recognisable with its chalk-white thallus and grey prothallus. First record for Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park, ~6th for central London. But surely more to be found on limestone structures in city.

First World War practice trenches dug on Berkhamsted Common by the Inns of Court Officers Training Corps. Of 12,000 officers housed in and near the town before embarkation, over half were casualties and 2,200 were killed.
