For the first #fossilfriday of 2026, I present some lovely marine fossils of lower Carboniferous (Visean) age, from the Bowland Shale Fm (formally the Poyllvaaish fm) from the Isle of Man. These are found in some very famous steps in London… anyone know where?

Early 20th Century memorial tablets in York Minster made from a fuchsite schist - I guessing it’s from the deposits in arctic Scandinavia or Finland. Both made for members of the Green family, the stone probably chosen to match the family name. Fuchsite is a chromite mica. #urbangeology

I went to the show Prehistoric Planet: Discovering Dinosaurs at the Lightroom in King’s Cross yesterday. Here’s my review. Overall I was definitely entertained, the visuals were excellent. The Lightroom is huge and so the creatures were projected life size which gave a true sense of scale. 1/3
