I once read an interview with a game designer who said something like "player feedback on game design is useful 0% of the time". The argument was that the specific requests made by players were almost always bad, but their feelings were correct and should be addressed. Would love to find this again.

very long shot, if anyone has a recommendation for a swedish small-scale manufacturing-type place, please let me know! I've been trying to find a local place for getting custom drilled metal enclosures for my new instruments, it has been incredibly frustrating!

thinking about just one of the many ways that academia is broken today, and wondering: has anyone figured out an automatic way to identify fake AI-generated "hallucinated" references in a paper? like, a script that checks the bibliography of a PDF for fake refs?

looking into making another PCB, I am once again feeling like there is an enormous business opportunity for someone to start simple + low-cost PCB manufacturing in the EU. How hard could it be?! [narrator voice: it is extremely hard]

doing a lot of pondering these days about the feasibility of a project around making a new version of the gametrak string mechanism for the adafruit/sparkfun hacker-hobbyist market (spoiler alert: I think the feasibility is low, but the idea is tantalising)

I've been working away on my STR-500 string sampler and (a bit) on the Memory Cloud synth, with the idea of maybe making a few for sale along with DIY kits etc. I now have a mailing list you can join if you'd like updates on either of these instruments:

among the many interesting things about having a hardware project that's popular on the internet is people asking me to "share the schematics". I'm never sure how to respond to this, because it feel like it's a question that stems from a fundamental misunderstanding of the design

I have always been lightly obsessed by the Philips "Pure Perfect Sound Forever" slogan that accompanied the launch of the CD. I only now noticed the translations, though. German and Dutch are basically the same, but the French was "Le son laser", which is hilariously less ambitious. Laser sound!
