I realised this was going to be my 100th film on Letterboxd... And every October I say I'll watch Suspiria and end up chickening out. So I watched Suspiria. Which is kind of too silly to be actually scary, but damn if that bright red paint blood isn't somehow grosser than realistic looking blood.

Another take of Claudette by Richee, 1936. The Paramount portraits were used in publicity for Maid of Salem (1937).

Former Work Husband sold me on Rouge months ago, and said yes when I asked if it'd fit my October spooky season. I didn't get much of a spooky feel but it is a lovely, quirky, memorable film.

So sad to hear of the death of punk legend Soo Catwoman (Susan Lucas). She was so amazing. She was, of course, the main inspiration for my hairstyle. I met her once in the 2000s, and apologised for stealing it. She very graciously said "At least you're doing it well." I'll take that. R.I.P.

Last week there was a film quiz at work. My randomly assigned team only got five points. I'm pretty sure I got five correct. So the guy sitting opposite asked me for recommendations. He's from a non-English-speaking background and felt left out when people talk about films.

there has never been any legal or denotative definition of pornography that wasn't intentionally a trojan horse to suppressing speech and eliminating marginalized groups, so even if porn was supposedly "ruining foreplay" and "making sex worse", I wouldn't fucking care. Have worse and rarer sex then

Louise observes the application of "artistic touches" to a coffee table "done in five shades of green with flashes of silver.” Also, “the painting and decorating of modern furniture employs many of the cleverest artists in Southern California.”

Louise on the run with Richard Arlen in Beggars of Life (1928). “Don’t let that crazy (William) Wellman talk you into doing any stunts yourself,” Louise remembers Wallace Beery telling her. “Directors love to kill actors.” She ended up doing most of the stunts anyway.

I finished Fantomas (1913) including the commentaries and featurette on the MoC edition. Was hoping to get through Les Vampires before horror season but running out of time now. Fantomas, to be honest, a bit of a slog. Interesting from the perspective that it's before the visual storytelling...

I can't shake the feeling I've offended an artist when they gave me a quote for my commission and I got sticker shock, however politely I declined. But I've secured an artist I kind of wanted more at 66% of the price, so, you know
