🧵UAW President Stephen Yokich was born on this day in 1935. Leading our union during a time of great change to the auto industry (1995-2002), he oversaw negotiations for increased benefits, expanded the union into new fields, and helped navigate autoworkers through a period of job cuts.

🧵 George F. Addes, a co-founder of the UAW and the union's first elected secretary-treasurer, was born on this day in 1911 in Toledo, Ohio. Addes grew up there, except for a few years his family spent in Flint, Michigan. He became involved in the labor movement at an early age.

🧵 The UAW turns 90 today! The UAW’s legacy isn’t measured only in contracts or factories. It’s seen in the millions of workers whose lives are more secure because they organized together for a better life.
