The phonetics lab had a great time at Methods and Techniques in Phonetic Sciences this weekend! There’s some really neat research out there. We loved checking in on what techniques other labs are utilizing, and sharing how we’re using free classification at the UofC.

Last night, we had a panel discussion with three alumna to discuss career paths for linguists. Thank you Dr. Jennifer Abel, Brittany McDonald, and Dr. Svitlana Winters for your insights into how a degree in linguistics can be used outside of academia. This was a very encouraging night!

Never ask a linguist "Is that a word?" because you will always get the same response, "IT IS NOW!" 😃 delivered with some variation of jazz hands like you just won a very low stakes game show and I'm so sorry it's just part of the training it's not something we can control.
