the only way this would work is if it were hosted by someone external with curiosity about what we have to say. like not even deep curiosity. we get activation energy from ppl reaching out and starting conversation. it's a rarity today and in many ways our fault given how we isolate

this is a good thing btw! idk where it has come from but roses this year seemingly have been increasing confidence in expressing things that were difficult to us before. so if there is a time to start doing these things, it's now

a fire within me has been lit and it is extremely difficult to NOT just want to dive into a conversation u care about but alas life commitments call my lesson learned is roses need to be talking more proactively about what we care about, so that we practice & don't get flustered in these moments,

anyway yeah, idk. but i do appreciate the people who make the effort to call us by our individual names. some don't even bother. despite using our plural proxies on discord with them. some i suppose can be excused, bc some don't call people by name to their face to begin with

sometimes i wonder if its worth being out plural like this, if there is even any point to it, in this kind of world we live in. the huge amount of friction it is to live true to yourself when "yourself" is so far from the visible norm and the norm that the world is predominantly designed around

i would love it if people/companies stopped using "AI" to buzzword brand things that have nothing to do w/genAI & LLMs. for what might be small scale ML, or hell even just simple algorithms. i hate even more that "AI" itself has become poison term, but that's how it is. capitalising on this just,

you will probably see a shift in how we run main soon. the roses are kinda changing things up on how we want to be online. tho we are going to consult a few folks about it- (from a social responsibility pov. not a social media engagement one. that's not why we're here)

i'm frustrated. frustrated bc white ppl just react. and they react only when it affects them. and thus they jump into things and know nothing about their established history beyond what only white ppl have said, unable to accept that entire realities have been cleansed/erased, bc it's too much-

i miss cohost, and the fediverse. it was far easier to write long form like that, and continue to iterate on it and refine it, even after going from draft to published state. and there wasn't the same scary sense of permanence. no room for any of that here

i still see tech people constantly shit on spreadsheets. the fact remains that they're a very approachable freeform way of collecting/organising data, general purpose, structured or unstructured, easy to iterate on. becoming a "power user" and discovering things like VLOOKUPs is also not far away

i think i got rather annoyed at people being harassed off the platform by the community, accused ableist for being even a little critical, blanket told "well why don't YOU make a website then", when often waas coming from a place of wanting to improve or help find ways to set it up for success

Search engines will soon be forced to check your age. According to new polling, about half of Australians have no idea this new regulation is coming.

Half of Australians have no idea that age checks are coming to search engines
Polling from the University of Canberra's News & Media Research Centre submission to a parliamentary inquiry supports its argument that many Australians are unaware of Australia's changing internet rules.

i very much dislike kneejerk unsubstantiated panic that is likely to lead to hopelessness, that's very common on social media. we need to direct our strength, anger, emotion to where it counts, and we need to take time to figure out where that is and coordinate. feel free to disagree with me

continuing the gen AI rant here bc i dont wanna keep harping abt it on main w/o anything valuable to add. heard somewhere that even though AI=genAI isn't "accurate", people insist on keeping to "AI" anyway bc this is how AI tech bros / companies are framing it and we have to "play their game"

so much of social media is full of "conversations" where each person is trying to double down hard on what they believe so everything gives off the vibe of a heated debate instead of ppl actually having a discussion. it's tiring tbh. it's a relief when you come across a rare actual conversation.

This is a great on the murky details of payment processing, and why one cannot simply "make their own payment processor" - as long as Visa, Mastercard, etc exist, you will likely have to deal with their BS regardless. Which is why it's important to keep up the pressure on them all until they relent!

"it is a privilege to live by your principles" is something i needed to hear, that someone had said to us recently. life isn't a moral binary. you can't judge a decision at face value, and by that token you're leaving any potential nuance at the door.
