This is Matron Ellen Dougherty the world’s 1st Registered nurse in 1901. She was matron of Palmerston North hospital where I trained 😇she had a staff of 2 alternating 12.5 hr shifts in 1893. Matron was also a trained pharmacist & would operate after hours if sole surgeon was ‘unavailable’ ie drunk.🤣
