I decided to start this year with a never miss a Monday goal. At least through the first quarter of the year. So far, I’ve gone surfing both Mondays of 2025, and even got a bonus boogie boarding session with my son. 2025. More surf. More music.

Monday Motivation

It’s 8:30 in the morning. My kids wanted to watch Star Wars and eat popcorn first thing in the morning to break in our new TV. All is well in the world. The force is with us.

I hate when I misspell a word by one letter and auto correct is like “yeah nah we got nothing for you that word just doesn’t exist no results” but then I spell something so poorly I only got nothing of the word right and it NAILS what I was going for 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️.

We need to keep asking the question simply and succinctly: Why is fact checking bad? The answers are always telling.

One day you’re conquering mountains. The next day it hurts to breathe. Both days, you are enough.

Spreading expert information and informed journalism right now is crucial. “It wasn’t because there wasn’t enough water,” he said. “It wasn’t because of political things that you might have read about. It wasn’t because of anything else but the wind.”

So, the algorithm here is showing me lots of spammy and surface level stuff. Does complaining about the algorithm magically change it to give me more music, art, philosophy, nuanced discussion, and real humans posting about their real lives and thoughts?

Genuine question, I’d love a good convo here. What do you think it would take for us to collectively lower the level of outrage and accusations? It’s like we’re intentionally trying to find an enemy, like there always has to be someone to blame. (1/2)

The thing I’m most grateful for about my childhood is I spent a lot of time traveling internationally. It taught me that the way we do things is not how everyone does things. The way the US views the world is not a globally held position. This isn’t how things have to be.

It could all be so different, we simply need the boldness to make it so. We don’t need to arrange ourselves this way forever. We don’t need to live disconnected from nature and our souls forever. (1/4)

LA fires are a good reminder that the only difference between me and any refugee is luck.

It’s weird seeing the (new) Roman Empire attempt to expand in real time. Like, I’ve read about all the places Rome conquered being rather pissed about it, but it’s wild being a Roman right now and watching Rome do what it does.

I listened to Bon Iver’s “For Emma” album today for the first time in years. That’s probably gonna be in heavy rotation for a bit. It’s such a mood.

I’m sure he’s not perfect, but I’m so glad we have Mark Cuban in this world. At least one of the billionaires is willing to vocally fight back.

I’ve had a lot of music in my mind lately - real time scoring my every day life, lyrics and hooks for yet-to-be-written songs, and old favorites that have stayed with me for awhile. It’s nice. For a good while last year, the music all went away. For a bit I worried it wouldn’t come back.
