I have a Masters in gerontology, but I also have lived experience as my mother’s caregiver. Mother passed in 2022. As someone with this background I feel compelled to say this. Ethical caregiving includes protecting privacy and preserving dignity.

Social media has blurred the lines between sharing, and entertaining. I think it’s worth asking ourselves: • Where is the line between awareness and exposure? • How do we protect dignity when someone can no longer consent? • Would we want our most vulnerable season recorded and shared?

I am becoming increasingly concerned with social media content that exploits, the cognitive decline of older people. Often the content is posted by the very people who are supposed to be caring for them. Dementia is no laughing matter and dignity does not expire with diagnosis.
