Made my way up to the Pikestones earlier today, a chambered cairn up on the moors north of Bolton - it's been on my list for a while and didn't disappoint (though the information sign did) 🪨

A few of my photos from a fab time at Derbyshire Archaeology Day 2026 in Chesterfield. Full of fantastic talks, great archaeology chats between speakers, and the infamous Colin Merrony book stall! January 2027 seems a long way off! Maybe some sort of Summer heritage social is in order? #archaeology

Great to be at Derbyshire Archaeology Day earlier - lots of passionate folks sharing their work, and plenty of food for thought. Nice to see some friendly faves too!

The Anchor Church, Foremark - a former hermit's cave with possible Anglo-Saxon origins (there is a legendary link with St Eardwulf, a deposed Northumbrian king/hermit who died in 830). Later repurposed (18C) as a dining-room-with-a-view for Foremark Hall! her.derbyshire.gov.uk/Monument/MDR...

I've been making these tinder bundles for about 10 years now, a nice alternative to chemical fire lighters and also quite relaxing to craft - each is a mixture of dry twigs, conifer etc with a birch bark topper.

Had a wander to 'Dingle Bank' recently, making the most of the sun - an interesting area with some curious bits and bobs, with a wonderful old benchmark on an ivy covered stone as a bonus.

On my wishlist for 2026 I think!
