I’m at my kids’ parent orientation, and the topic that generated more questions from parents is the school car line. Curriculum? No. New teachers? Nope. If that’s not an indicator of a failed transportation system, I don’t know what is.

Something I wish more people understood: part of the point of shock-and-awe grant terminations at NIH and NSF has been to make scientists and university administrators afraid to speak out against the administration. And it's working. But, some of us were never going to get a grant from them anyway.

We lost 5 grants across my two departments (Physics & Astronomy and Science Education), including one of mine. We are at an R2 university. All grants were STEM education related.

NSF has supported work I’ve done with colleagues improving math instruction for thousands of students through their teachers. I paid it forward by serving as a program officer and expert for 6 1/2 years, approving hundreds of millions of dollars worth of STEM education research awards.

The NSF grant I had with @proftv.bsky.social, @drkwilkinson.bsky.social and others was terminated yesterday. This grant helped STEM faculty improve their intro courses by making them more active and asset-based. Over 1000 grants have been terminated this month. Call congress, science needs you.
