I went to grad school straight out of undergrad because I didn't feel ready for the "real world". Did my PhD in pandemic influenza but knew by the end lab research wasn't for me. Graduated at the end of 2009 (swine flu pandemic) and got a job with a government contractor (1/2)

Please send me your good vibes - I had what seemed like a really good interview today for a role that could have been written specifically for me. It's a tiny company, so there's a chance salary and benefits don't line up, but if they do, this would be a step towards exec team for me!

Survived week 1 post-layoff. Managed to keep myself in a pretty good routine. Applied to a handful of positions and had phone calls with 2 contacts at a competitor of my previous company that currently has the contract I ran for 3 years. All I can do is keep plugging away!

This trip y'all. I was supposed to arrive in Jacksonville at 2:30pm. We landed at 3am. My bags are still in Atlanta. I still have a 45 minute ride home. Tomorrow is my last day at the job I've had for 15 years and I'm going to be am exhausted mess.

10 hours late, 7 hours after I was supposed to be home, I'm finally in the air to Atlanta and hoping there's still a flight to Jacksonville to catch once I get there.

Well, after 3 hours, they de-planed us then canceled the flight. Cross your fingers my 7:30pm flight with a connection through Atlanta actually happens. There are 2 little girls who expect their CC home for Halloween.

My month in NYC is officially up today, but apparently the city doesn't want to let me go - boarded the plane on time only to be told we're 42nd in line for takeoff.

So either I'm getting laid off in 25 minutes or I have the world's most oblivious VP (throwing a last minute no context meeting on my calendar less than an hour after the CEO announced another round of cuts). Cross your fingers for the latter!

Notably: every single rally (including in the small towns) was bigger than the surrounding police force available. That kind of image event is VERY IMPORTANT if you're, I dunno, demonstrating social coherence AGAINST a fascist government and it's makeshift gestapo.

this is all already political violence. The genocide against trans people is political violence. ICE raids are political violence. Dobbs is political violence. This episode was just more visible and overtly violent because it was taped.

No one is ever called out for politicizing a tragedy when it’s violence against the political right. When it happens, people from every corner of society – people who’ve been silent during countless atrocities – suddenly wake up, demand action, and denounce violence in all its forms.

Like i get *what* they value, but cannot figure out why they value it. Above compassion? Above care? Above mutual support? I don't fucking get it.
