I don't understand the lack of understanding. There seems clearly three large tribes of hatred (by size): - The right stirred into further radicalised hatred of the left - Progressives who've watched them burn their values wholesale - Some from Labour who hate them leading them into oblivion

I think the key to answering this question is understanding Starmer/Reeves unpopularity among natural allies. A majority of Laboir voters disapprove of him, as do large majorities of LD/Green voters. Hostility from natural political opponents is normal. Hostility from natural supporters is not.

As an immigrant and naturalised British citizen with an immigrant spouse, being repeatedly told by Starmer and his government that we are unwanted in the country and the source of its problem put me off voting for him and Labour, until they convincingly stop and reverse the xenophobia.

A friend who utterly betrays you is always hated more than someone who’s always been an enemy. For people on the left - particularly with immigrant family, friends and colleagues - this feels like a complete betrayal.
