Having zero experience in government, I would be an incompetent senator on a good day. In the god-awful event my brother-parent died just a day or two before, while grief is so very fresh? Beyond pliable.

In my fiction-writing years, I created detailed character backstories: plopped characters into many situations and wrote volumes to learn their reactions. The backstories never made their way into the stories but were immeasurably helpful in creating more-believable characters.

Perhaps every relationship has bumps but if you are a writer, songwriter, poet - whatever form - that bump is cemented, allowing people to often misconstrue the totality of what you and your partner mean to each other: a blip on the screen is all they see - not the decades of support and commitment.

White noise apps & ambient playlists can be a lifeline for trauma survivors who are vulnerable to flashbacks, tinnitus, dissociation, & other intrusive symptoms. I never try to work or sleep without something soothing (often "warm pink noise," look it up) playing.

Honored to have earned the endorsement of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare. I refuse to accept that America has the money to pay for bombs & a ballroom, but not the health & security of seniors. I'm fighting to ensure seniors have access to health care & social security.

Maybe weird dreams aren't about the weird part but so you'll remember the dream and extract the pith. I had a very strange dream the other night about a childhood friend I hadn't thought about in a while so reached out to her. Haven't heard back but maybe reaching out was why the weird.

Competition is so absurd. That we allow, perhaps, just one person sitting behind a desk to decide our fate? That they hold the singular power to decide? A writer without a reader is still a writer - but don't we all want our words to be read? To matter...to someone?

Million-dollar idea. Congrats to whoever takes it and runs with it: make a line of affordable black shifts. All the same. In every size. In every department store. Why? People die. All the time. Small people and large people want to pay their respects and look respectful and not waste time shopping.

Sometimes I have to revisit my childhood to remember how to fall asleep. It was often by ignoring the music or noise around me. That's how I learned to study and the reason why, in later years, my best concentration was by having a radio or television on in another room - so I could tune it out.

Maybe 2nd grade, I received a 'D' in writing: handwriting - but my already-delicate psyche thought it meant I was a lousy writer. Thereafter, I lacked confidence yet wrote prolifically. Do you have a memory of thinking someone thought your writing was subpar?

I wonder why young people are encouraged to be their unique selves, but when you are closer to dead than twenty, unless you are a celebrity, society thinks you're batshit crazy if your thought process or behavior is not cookie-cutter.

I wonder why it is socially acceptable for adults to watch a movie or read a book or view some art form and be moved to tears and cry their faces off, but off-putting to do the same in response to their personal reality.

That fear that you "don't make sense" when you talk isn't about whether you actually make sense or not-- it's usually about having been made to feel in the past like what you had to say wasn't important or intelligent. The reality is, you are articulate & expressive. Remember.
