Bellach, mae'r ddau hynaf o gywion Glaslyn yn dargyfeirio eu hegni i gynhyrchu plu ar gyfer hedfan ac mae Bobi Bach yn brysur dal i fyny â'i siblingiaid hŷn.

The eldest two of the Glaslyn chicks are now diverting their energy into producing feathers for flight and Bobi Bach is rapidly catching up with the older siblings.

Suddenly we have three young Ospreys on the Glaslyn nest! The chicks will be ringed during the coming week.

We have received some fantastic news from Friends of the Ospreys. At the FotO Anglesey nest, where Blue 499 (Glaslyn 2022) and Blue 3C2 (Carrbridge 2024) are breeding together their first chick has now hatched.

Rydyn ni wedi derbyn newyddion gwych gan Gyfeillion y Gweilch. Ar nyth Cyfeillion y Gweilch Ynys Môn, mae cyw cyntaf Glas 499 (Glaslyn 2022) a Glas 3C2 (Carrbridge 2024) wedi deor erbyn hyn.

It has been a hot day for both Ospreys and humans, with little activity on the nests.

Mae hi wedi bod yn ddiwrnod poeth i'r Gweilch ac i'r bodau dynol, gydag fawr ddim gweithgarwch ar y nythod.

The two Osprey mothers have spent the day with wings outstretched to shade their chicks from the sun. Both the adults and chicks have also been gular fluttering, which is the way birds thermoregulate their temperature to keep cool.

The chicks on the Friends of the Ospreys Pont Croesor nest are rapidly turning into small ospreys and taking an interest in their surroundings. They can be clearly seen from our John Parry Hide now. The camera lens isn't looking too clear though; we hope it is not being used for poo firing practice!

We are continuing to carefully observe the youngest chick on the Glaslyn nest. The chick has been eating well over the past two days and does not appear to have any issues with swallowing or its tongue. We have reviewed footage in detail from Wednesday night several times from all camera views.

Yesterday evening we became aware that KC6/Teifi had delivered a Brown Trout containing fishing line to the nest, which had become entwined between Elen and the youngest chick. The risk of further entanglement was great and it was quickly decided that it was vital that we intervened.

Mae dau gyw hŷn Glaslyn bellach yn 21 diwrnod oed, tra bo'r ieuengaf ond yn 18 diwrnod oed. Efallai nad yw hyn yn ymddangos fel gwahaniaeth mawr, ond o ran cyfraddau twf mae'n enfawr. Mae'r tri chyw bellach yn y cyfnod cyfradd twf cyflym, sy'n digwydd rhwng 15 a 30 diwrnod oed.

The two older chicks on the Glaslyn nest are now 21 days old, while the youngest one is only 18 days old. This might not seem like a big difference, but in terms of growth rates it is huge. All three chicks are now in the rapid growth rate phase, which takes place between 15 and 30 days of age.

6Yesterday we had our first two year old intruder of the season and it was a new Osprey to the Glaslyn Valley. Blue 9C9 hatched at a private nest in the Lake District in 2024 and was ringed by Peter Davies on June 28 that year as one of a brood of two.

Sibling rivalry generally occurs when osprey chicks are 2 to 3 weeks old and is usually related to food availability. When there is a plentiful supply of fish, there are rarely squabbles between the young. The oldest chicks, being the largest, will always be the dominant ones during feeding.

One of the biggest causes of duckling mortality in this area is... other Mallard families. On small streams/ponds, there's limited food, and little chance of avoiding each other, and so females and even ducklings try to kill other broods to eliminate the competition. They're very vicious in attack.

It has been a wet and miserable day in the Glaslyn Valley. On both the Glaslyn nest and the Friends of the Ospreys Pont Croesor nest the males have made sure that fish has been available when the females needed to break off from brooding to feed their chicks.

Our amazing new team of dormice survey volunteers have been working hard to build monitoring tunnels, learn to ID footprints and survey Ddôl Uchaf Nature Reserve for signs of these very rare mice. This will provide us with vital information for managing the site for wildlife.💚

A huge thank you to Branwen Martin and family for opening their beautiful Hafod Garegog Gardens to visitors under the National Garden Scheme on Sunday, 24 May. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the gardens and refreshments on such a warm, sunny day. The event was a great success!

The chicks on the Friends of the Ospreys Pont Croesor nest are now 15, 13 and 11 days old and all have now lost their first down and resemble dinosaurs. The middle chick looks up in wonder at the size of Z2/Aeron's outstretched wings!
