I think mathematics at this level is a human endeavor, and solving these problems is an exercise in creativity like working on a puzzle. We’re just losing our humanity by letting AI do all the fun stuff while we toil at our desks doing tedious stuff like filling out expense forms.

Fundamentally, the reason we do science is the same reason we make art. Both are creative expressions of our humanity and both are tools for us to explore and understand reality. To treat either as a commodity is to diminish ourselves.

How do we deal with absolute fools just totally ignoring reality? This is the geological equivalent of RFK Jr.'s vaccine denialism. Between this and gutting both the US Geological Survey and the National Science Foundation's support for geoscience, how's the field survive?

It plainly invalidates all driver's licenses held by trans people if they've changed their gender markers. It requires them to turn those licenses over. They don't have a list to check but now any out trans person could be ratted out by family, friends or coworkers and have their licenses revoked.
