We've had a "Protect Trans Kid" yard sign out front for more than a year and have never had a negative response until now. Last week, we received a hand-written, anti-trans hate letter in the mail. This is the violent reality that this fascist regime's erasure of trans folks engenders.

One of the disturbing reactions to the Mahmoud Khalil arrest is people making things up that he did to justify it that even the Trump admin doesn't claim he did. People just see him as the *type* of person who did the things they're mad about, so punishing him for it is acceptable. Lynching logic.

All of this––DOGE's mass layoffs, ICE raids, tariff threats, erasure of trans people––is meant to traumatize us to the point of apathy and inaction. Sowing fear, creating a sense that you are never safe is a precondition of a fascist regime. Even if we escape it, the trauma of that will haunt us.

One thing to keep in mind for the next 4 years is that the people *doing something about it* often won't be able to talk about it. Sometimes this is for security reasons, but also simply because *we don't have time* to talk about community defense / mutual aid filing up our nights and weekends.

Take a deep breath. If you can, step outside, breathe in, breathe out. Feel the sun on your face, if it's out. If it's not, watch the clouds for 20 seconds. Close your eyes and identify the sounds you hear, from farthest away to closest. Breathe in, breathe out again. You are still here.
