A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Clare and Osceola counties, which goes into effect at midnight tonight and runs through 9 AM on Wednesday. This is for the potential of freezing rain, which may make for a slippery Wednesday morning commute.

Watching a system in the late Tuesday night into Wednesday timeframe that may bring a variety of weather to West Michigan, including rain, wintry mix, and maybe even thunder. Below is my first call for precipitation types for this system. North/south shifts remain likely. [1/4]

As the ongoing winter storm system begins to depart the area tonight into Friday morning, attention quickly turns to this weekend as another winter storm system moves in for our Saturday into Sunday. [1/3]

Potential for strong/severe storms exists on Saturday across the Ark-La-Tex and lower-mid Mississippi Valley. Some uncertainties remain given we are several days out, but enough confidence exists where SPC has opted to outline the region in their Day 6 Severe Outlook. [1/2]

BREAKING: For the first time in more than 12 years, the National Weather Service has upgraded a Tornado Damage survey to the maximum rating; EF-5! This rating has been given to the June 20th, 2025, Enderlin, ND, tornado, which is now estimated to have packed maximum wind speeds of over 210 MPH!

One more weekend that will feel more like late summer instead of fall across West Michigan. Highs generally in the lower to middle 80s and overnight lows in the lower to potentially mid 60s in spots. [1/2]

While storms are possible this evening (mainly along/west of US-131), they're not anticipated to reach severe limits. Additional storms possible tomorrow (Sunday), where we are monitoring a low-end isolated severe threat for the afternoon/evening hours.

Warmer temperatures have returned, and look to stick around for the foreseeable future. Other than some small rain chances on Saturday and potentially the towards the latter part of next week, it appears to be a mainly dry pattern as well.

Radar around 1015 PM shows showers/storms moving onshore over our far northwest zones. Activity should in general remain north of a Grand Haven-Reed City line tonight. Severe weather not expected, but some storms may produce 40 MPH wind gusts with lightning and heavy downpours.

Dangerous swimming conditions with strong currents and waves of 2-5 feet are expected at Lake Michigan beaches north of Holland today, especially from Grand Haven to Manistee. Remember, respect the flag and stay dry when waves are high!

Storm Prediction Center has highlighted our northeastern areas along the US-127 corridor (Clare, Mt. Pleasant, Alma) for a low-end isolated damaging wind/large hail threat with any storm development through early evening Weather watch issuance is unlikely at 5% probability.

Radar just after 3 PM this afternoon shows isolated to scattered shower/thunderstorm activity developing across Northeast Lower Michigan.

SPC has expanded the Marginal risk southward slightly to include a few more areas closer to the M-46 and M-21 corridors. All other details remain the same from my most recent update.

A Marginal (Level 1/5) risk is in place across portions of northeastern Lower Michigan, or from the Tri-Cities and Northern Thumb area northward for this afternoon and evening.

Quite the hail core on the storm near the Hubbard Lake area. This storm is likely producing hail on the larger side in Southern Alpena Co. into Northeastern Alcona Co. Take cover now in a sturdy structure, preferably on the lowest floor and AWAY FROM WINDOWS. #miwx

351 PM: Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southwestern portions of Huron Co. in the Thumb of Michigan until 445 PM this afternoon for potential 60 MPH and hail up to quarter size (1") in diameter.

Radar estimating up to 3.5" of rain has fallen in/around the Jonesville area in Hillsdale Co. within a relatively short period of time. Localized areas of minor flooding likely in the advisory area. Do not attempt to travel through any flooded roadways - turn around and find an alternative route.

Partly cloudy with a chance for a couple of isolated showers or thunderstorms this afternoon, especially along US-127. Summer-like warmth returns today with highs generally in the 80s.

NEW: The NWS has received permission to hire up to 450 meteorologists/hydrologists/radar technicians after DOGE-related cuts. Agency also given a public safety exemption from federal hiring freeze after losing more than 550 people in those cuts. (1/2)
