From NWS Detroit/Pontiac: Flash Flood Warning including Oxford MI, Lake Orion MI and Ortonville MI until 9:30 PM EDT

518 PM 4/25: Some shower and thunderstorm activity continues across parts of the region this afternoon and evening. All activity currently remains under severe limits, although some small hail and sub-severe wind gusts may be occurring with the strongest storms.

936 PM 4/23: The Level 1/5 Marginal risk of severe weather previously in place for the area has been removed in the evening outlook update from the Storm Prediction Center. Some shower and thunderstorm activity remains possible tonight, but any storm activity should remain sub-severe.

120 PM 4/23: Portions of our area are under a Level 1/5 Marginal severe weather for later today into portions of tonight.

1127 AM 4/21: Wind Advisory in effect through 10 PM this evening for everyone near and north of the Interstate 96 corridor. Southwest winds sustained at 20-30 MPH with frequent gusts in excess of 40 MPH are expected.

Happy Easter everyone! Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to impact the area beginning in the next couple of hours and especially into tonight and early Monday morning.

130 AM: Storms continue to carry more bark than bite as the cold front continues to slowly work its way through the area. Very frequent lightning and heavy rainfall are occurring with these storms, along with the potential for pockets of small hail and gusty winds.

1158 PM: Monitoring some storms that have recently fired up north of the Grand Rapids area. Nothing severe at this time, and we anticipate any severe threat to be on the very low-end and primarily for the potential of marginally severe hail.

900 PM: The storms that were ongoing earlier this evening struggled to truly overcoming the capping inversion and failed to become surface-based, therefore they didn't amount to much more than very loud heavy rainmakers with frequent lightning and maybe some occasional sub-severe wind gusts and

616 PM - Storms around the area are quite loud as they're producing lots of lightning, but otherwise they are behaving and staying under severe limits as of this posting.

5 PM: Storm Prediction Center monitoring our area for potential storm initial near/south of the warm front, currently located near the I-96 corridor. Assuming storms fire, they may become capable of large hail and damaging wind gusts.

410 PM: Watching some showers and thunderstorms over SE Wisconsin/NE Illinois that have blossomed over the last hour, with severe warnings already in place for large hail in SE Wisconsin.

238 PM: All is quiet for the moment across our local area, and mixed clouds and sunshine has broken out across the area as well.

110 PM: With the morning round of showers and thunderstorms pushing out over the next hour, our attention now turns to the possibility of additional strong to severe thunderstorms late this afternoon into the evening hours.

1221 PM: Monitoring strong but currently non-severe thunderstorms as they continue to quickly push east through Shiawassee and southern Saginaw counties. It will begin to arrive into Genesee Co. including the Flint area over the next 15-30 minutes.

Monitoring some signs of training of our strong to severe thunderstorms, particularly between the M-21 and M-46 corridors.

Storm Prediction Center has downgraded our entire area to a Level 1/5 Marginal risk for severe weather today/tonight. This is for the potential severe weather we've been monitoring for the evening hours.

We continue to monitor the conditional severe weather threat for Friday late afternoon into the evening hours. We are also watching storms late tonight into Friday morning, which are currently not forecast to reach severe limits but may carry a small hail/gusty wind threat.

A combination of warm temperatures into the 60s, humidity down as low as 25%, and gusty SW winds (10-15 MPH sustained with gusts to 25 MPH), all are contributing to increased wildfire danger today. Today would be a good day to avoid outdoor burning.

110 AM 4/17: Some new short-range guidance coming in this evening is hinting at elevated localized tornado potential near the warm front across portions of Central Lower Michigan late Friday afternoon/evening.

A dry Thursday at least for the daylight hours before shower/thunderstorm chances return Thursday night into Friday. Monitoring severe potential for Friday PM, although it is a tricky forecast on whether a capping inversion (lid) is able to break enough for storms to develop Friday PM.

Continuing to monitor the potential for severe thunderstorms for our Friday, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours. SPC continues to maintain a Level 2/5 Slight risk for our area in their Day 3 severe weather outlook.

All is quiet in the weather department for today, with sunshine expected for the afternoon hours after morning cloud cover (departing as of this posting around lunchtime). Warming trend over the next few days, heading into the 70s by Friday.

A dreary and chilly day across the area with northwest winds gusting in excess of 40 MPH at times. We return to a quieter pattern for the middle of the week with moderating temperatures. Next chance of active weather in terms of showers and thunderstorms arrives Thursday night into Friday.

We're continuing to monitor the potential for severe thunderstorms toward the end of the week, especially on Friday (April 18).

After rain and even a few rumbles of thunder with gusty winds last night, things are quiet once again for the moment with Mostly to Partly Sunny skies. Our next round of precipitation arrives late tonight into Tuesday morning as rain transitioning to snow briefly.

Taking a look at the extended range, current guidance suggests the upper air pattern will become favorable for severe weather potential towards the end of the upcoming week across the region.

Dry conditions for at least for the beginning of our weekend, with warming temperatures expected through the short term (this weekend into the start of next week).

Tornado #14 from the March 30th severe weather event was confirmed this afternoon near the Sturgis area in SE St. Joseph County. It was rated EF-0 with 80 MPH and was on the ground just over 3 1/2 miles. This puts Michigan at 16 tornadoes for the year so far. #MIwx

Tornadoes continue to be confirmed from the March 30th severe weather event across the region. The latest one confirmed is near Kent City in Kent Co. It was rated EF-1 with estimated peak winds of 95 MPH. It was a brief tornado, on the ground from 558-600 PM along its 1.6 mile long path. #MIwx

Rain continuing to overspread much of the region this evening, even mixing in with snow in some spots. More of a transition to snow will continue tonight into the morning hours of Thursday, before transitioning back to all rain towards the mid/late morning hours.

Tornado #12 from the March 30th severe event has been confirmed near Murray Lake south of Grattan in Kent Co. It was rated EF-0 with estimated peak winds of 75 MPH. It was on the ground for 2.4 miles from 600-603 PM ET. The maximum path width was 300 yards.

Cooler temperatures persist through the middle of the week. Next chance of precipitation in the form of rain and snow later Wednesday into Thursday. Watching for potential accumulating snow particularly north. Warmer temperatures and quieter conditions return for the weekend into early next week.

4/7 115 PM: Rain showers (with even some snow mixing in north) continue to move out through the afternoon into early evening hours. Our high temperatures were this morning as temperatures continue to fall. Cooler temperatures stick around through midweek, with more rain/snow chances on Wednesday.

1150 AM 4/5: Rain showers have mostly pushed off to the east late this Saturday morning. Partly to Mostly cloudy skies hang around for the rest of the day, with high temperatures generally maxing out in the upper 40s to lower 50s.

Two tornadoes have been confirmed in Branch Co. from our recent severe weather event on Wednesday (4/2).

601 PM: The following roadways are closed in the Lansing area due to flooding from the Red Cedar River. - EB I-496 off ramp to Kalamazoo St. - NB US-127 off ramp to Kalamazoo St. - NB Old 127 (Homer St.) at Kalamazoo St.

540 PM 4/4: Rain will lift into the area once again this evening, continuing into Saturday morning before ending. A slight chance of a thunderstorm or two tonight as well southeast of a South Haven to Sandusky line. Severe weather is NOT anticipated tonight.

Tornado #10 has been confirmed from Sunday 3/30 in northern Kent County near Myers Lake. It was rated EF-0 with estimated peak winds of 85 MPH, and was on the ground along a 5 mile path from 6:00 to 6:10 PM ET on Sunday. #MIwx

900 AM: We were fortunate to avoid the significant severe weather yesterday evening, although high winds did cause some outages across portions of SW Jackson Co. and hail up to ping-pong ball size was reported in Huron Co.

1151 PM: Severe weather threat has wrapped up for tonight across the area. Some showers and thunderstorms remain possible through the overnight hours, particularly in southeast lower Michigan where a Flood Watch continues through 8 AM tomorrow morning. More isolated shower activity west of there.

1037 PM: Monitoring some potential signs of rotation within this isolated cell ahead of the line in southwestern Wayne Co. Nothing imminently suggesting a tornado threat but NWS is aware and monitoring this in case a warning is eventually required.

1010 PM: No active severe thunderstorm warnings across our coverage area. Watching some stronger storms capable of subsevere wind gusts and hail, with a stronger storm in Southern Washtenaw Co. showing signs of 40-50 MPH gusts on low level radar out of SW Wayne Co.

852 PM: Ping pong ball size hail possible with severe warned storm in Huron County especially north of the Bad Axe area. Kinde, Port Austin, Grindstone City and Port Hope take shelter now in a sturdy building away from windows.

825 PM: With storm activity and active severe warnings once again, we are back live on YouTube with a looping radar stream with alert information scrolling on screen. Will cut in with warning information as necessary. youtube.com/live/lcx...

The Weather Prediction Center has put out a Mesoscale Precipitation Discussion product concerning the potential of heavy rainfall causing possible flash flooding. In our region it roughly includes areas near and southeast of the Interstate 69 corridor.

759 PM: Strong but currently non-severe storm quickly moving out of Gratiot County heading northeast towards the general direction of Saginaw. Winds in excess of 40 MPH and hail up to nickel size possible.
