Several reports have been received by the Devon Network Control Centre about icy conditions across the highway network today. Gritters are out treating the network so please remember to ‘Drive carefully and remember that ice can still form even on treated road surfaces’

Good to see the other new Belisha beacon and pole being installed on the Sidmouth Temple Street Zebra Crossing. Just need the light shield fitted to the west side Belisha.

By way of a heads up Devon County Council fencing contractors will be undertaking fencing repairs either side of the culvert on the Road from Snodbrook Cross to Harcombe Cross, Sidford, on Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th February 2025.

We've welcomed a record £83.6 million “early Christmas present” from the Government for road repairs.

Just a heads up that Devon Highways will be undertaking patching works on Woodlands and Cotmaton Road between Tuesday 14th – Thursday 16th January 2025, with a parking restriction in Woodlands. There will also be a need for road closure with signed diversion.

Parts of South-West England have seen some of the highest accumulations of rainfall associated with Storm Bert with event totals at White Berrow 127mm, Bellever Dartmoor 110mm and Dartmoor Training Area 103mm all in Devon

Devon Storm Bert….The supply chain and subcontract teams have also been mobilised and there will be at least 16 tree surgery crews available over the weekend. There will also be a number of gully cleaning vehicles available, to be deployed across the county.

Devon’s term maintenance contractor Milestone are ready for Storm Bert and besides their normal callout teams they will be supported by the 37 gritter drivers that would normally be on-call for winter activity over the weekend.

Storm Bert will also see heavy and prolonged rain which along with the snow melt will lead to localised flooding

Storm Bert which is going to see gusts of wind across Devon of 50/60mph however in coastal areas along the south coast these could reach 70mph which will lead to trees being uprooted and possible structural damage….. so batten down the hatches…..

Lowest Road temperature recorded across Devon was at Sidmouth-2.8 which most probably provides the evidence of why conditions across East Devon are so bad

Heavy snow has started falling across parts of the County, especially over the high ground of Dartmoor but now reaching as far as Exeter and East Devon. Gritters have been out on salting runs since the early hours and some routes are due to go out again.
