Shot Of The Day. 83 year old Jack Smith (left) receives an illuminated address from Chelsea Vice-Chairman, Mr C J Pratt in recognition of his sixty years as a turnstile operator at Stamford Bridge. Jack, of Chesson Road W14 started on the gate in 1905 and is still working in February 1965.

Shot Of The Day. Peter Osgood celebrates after his goal levels the score against Stoke City at Wembley in the League Cup Final on 4th March 1972. Sadly for Chelsea, a George Eastham goal deprives them of a 3rd trophy in 3 years.

On This Day 8th May 1985, Chelsea won 2-0 against Luton Town at Stamford Bridge in a Division 1 fixture. Kerry Dixon on 26 minutes and Pat Nevin on 80 minutes scored for Chelsea. The attendance was 13,789.

Shot Of The Day. Barbados goalkeeper, Lloyd Seale jumps to collect the ball under pressure from Eddie McCreadie on 20th May 1964. Played in Bridgetown, the game was part of an end of season tour that Chelsea won 7-0.

On This Day 20th April 1987, Chelsea drew 1-1 with Southampton at Stamford Bridge in a Division I fixture. Pat Nevin gave Chelsea the lead but Colin Clarke levelled for Southampton. The attendance was 11,512.

Shot Of The Day. From being 2-0 down to Sunderland at Roker Park on 16th November 1957, Chelsea fight back and this flying header from Les Stubbs makes it 2-2 in the 42nd minute. Reg Matthews saves a late Don Revie penalty and Chelsea earn a point.

Worth remembering that Djurgarden would have been Chelsea’s first ever European Cup opponents had the club not been forced by the Football League to withdraw from the inaugural competition in 1955/56.

On This Day 13th April 1912, Chelsea won 1-0 against Hull City at Stamford Bridge in a Division 2 fixture. Charlie Freeman scored the only goal of the game for Chelsea in the 80th minute. The attendance was 35,000.

Shot Of The Day. Struggling in Division I after promotion, Chelsea face Bolton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge on 12th October 1907. The visitors are also finding life tough, but they win 3-1 in front of over 35,000 spectators. It’s six defeats in seven games for Chelsea.

Shot Of The Day. Jon Harley takes a throw in during Chelsea’s F.A. Youth Cup Quarter Final against Blackburn Rovers at Stamford Bridge on 20th March 1998. The game ends 1-1 but Chelsea lose 2-0 in the replay at Ewood Park five days later.

Shot Of The Day. The ball is already in the net from the foot of Alan Birchenall and Chelsea are 2-0 up against Preston North End in a 4th Round F.A. Cup Replay at Stamford Bridge on 25th January 1969. With 15 minutes remaining the lights go out and the game is abandoned.

On This Day 10th April 1954, Chelsea won 2-0 against Bolton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge in a Division I fixture. Eric Parsons and Roy Bentley scored for Chelsea and the attendance was 49,433.

Shot Of The Day. Paul Elliott puts the ball in the back of the net for Chelsea’s first goal against Notts County at Stamford Bridge on 28th August 1991. The Wednesday night Barclays Division 1 fixture ends in a 2-2 draw and Chelsea are still winless at home.
