Today’s Programme Was issued for Chelsea’s home game against Bradford Park Avenue on 6th March 1920 which Chelsea won 4-1. The occasion was a 4th Round F.A. Cup Tie and the victory in front of 61,223 spectators set up a Semi-Final against Aston Villa.

Today’s Programme Was issued for Chelsea’s home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on 9th April 1955 which Chelsea won 1-0. The victory virtually assured Chelsea of the League Title and a huge gate of 75,043 was there to see it,

Today’s Programme Was issued for Chelsea’s home game against Stoke City on 11th May 1963 which Stoke City won 1-0. The Division 2 promotion clash drew a magnificent attendance of 66,199 to Stamford Bridge.

Today’s Programme Was issued for Chelsea’s home game against Blackpool on 16th October 1948 which ended in a 3-3 draw. A gate of 77,696 was recorded, making it the 2nd largest official league attendance at Stamford Bridge and the 3rd largest overall.

Today’s Programme Was issued for Chelsea’s home game against Manchester United on 28th April 1973 which Chelsea won 1-0. The game marked Bobby Charlton’s final league appearance for United before his retirement and 44,184 spectators were there to see it.

Today’s Programme Was issued for Chelsea’s home game against Portsmouth on 16th February 1963. Severe weather caused the fixture to be postponed until 21st May when Chelsea won 7-0 to secure promotion. Only one copy of the original programme is known to exist.

Today’s Programne Was issued for Chelsea’s home game against Manchester United on 5th November 1966 which United won 3-1. The attendance was 55,958, but an incredible total of 62,586 programmes were sold for the match. A record by any British club.

Today’s Programme Was issued for Chelsea’s home game against Leicester City on 18th December 1954 which Chelsea won 3-1. One of their goals was a shared own goal by City’s Stan Milburn and Jack Froggatt. It is still the only shared own goal in Football League history.

Today’s Programme Was issued for Chelsea’s F.A. Cup 4th Round Tie at home to then Southern League side Swindon Town on 11th March 1911 which Chelsea won 3-1. An astonishing 77,952 spectators attended the game and it is still the 2nd largest official attendance at Stamford Bridge.

On This Day 24th May 1971, Chelsea drew 2-2 with Slough Town at the Dolphin Stadium in a friendly match. Terry Reardon and John Connell gave Slough a 2-0 lead, but two late Derek Smethurst goals gave Chelsea the draw. The attendance was 5,000.

Shot Of The Day Eric Parsons bundles himself and the ball over the Sunderland goal line at Stamford Bridge on 7th February 1953. The goal begins a great fight back by Chelsea and after being 2 down in the 20th minute they eventually win the game 3-2.

Shot Of The Day John Spencer turns after equalising for Chelsea against Oxford United at the Manor Ground on 19th February 1994. Craig Burley then scores to put Chelsea ahead and they survive an Oxford penalty miss to win the F.A. Cup 5th Round Tie.

Shot Of The Day It’s 1.30pm on 9th February 1974 and a deluge of rain hits Stamford Bridge before Chelsea’s game against Manchester City. Head Groundsman, George Anstiss gets busy with a fork to clear the water. Chelsea win the game 1-0.

On This Day A nice commemorative set of badges to celebrate Chelsea’s first European triumph. Such a shame that Danbury Mint is no more.

Shot Of The Day David Speedie fails to connect with a Paul Canoville cross at Stamford Bridge on 4th March 1985. Sunderland survive on this occasion, but they eventually win the Milk Cup Semi-Final 2nd Leg Tie 3-2 and 5-2 on aggregate. The Tie is marred by crowd trouble.

On This Day 19th May 1971, Chelsea drew 1-1 with Real Madrid at the Karaiskaki Stadium in Athens a.e.t in the European Cup Winners Cup Final. Peter Osgood scored for Chelsea with Ignacio Zoco replying for Real Madrid. The attendance was 45,000.

Shot Of The Day Peter Bonetti dives the right way but he can’t prevent Sheffield United from taking the lead at Bramall Lane on 30th October 1965. Chelsea fight back and Peter Osgood’s first league goal helps them to a 2-1 win.

Shot Of The Day Kerry Dixon runs at the Wimbledon defence on a red hot day at Plough Lane on 19th August 1989. A larger than expected crowd delays the kick but a single Kevin Wilson goal is enough to give Chelsea an opening day victory.

Shot Of The Day Despair for Hull City and elation for Chelsea at Boothferry Park on 8th November 1975. Ian Hutchinson has just scored Chelsea’s 2nd goal and the 2-1 victory is their first away win in the league at the 9th attempt.

On This Day 16th May 1999, Chelsea won 2-1 against Derby County at Stamford Bridge in a Premier League fixture. Celestine Babayaro and Gianluca Vialli scored for Chelsea with Horacio Carbonari replying for Derby County. The attendance was 35,016.

Shot Of The Day Charlie Thomson collects a corner kick as Chelsea face bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur at White Lane on 2nd April 1955. In one of the pivotal games of the season for Chelsea, they come from behind twice before eventually winning 4-2 in a thrilling encounter.

Shot Of The Day Clive Walker cracks home Chelsea’s 4th goal against Burnley in a hastily rearranged F.A. Cup 4th Round Tie at Stamford Bridge on 31st January 1978. Postponed the previous Saturday due to a waterlogged pitch, Chelsea win this one 6-2.

Shot Of The Day Michael Harrison has the onerous task of trying to stop the great Stanley Matthews at Bloomfield Road on 30th September 1961. Now without the services of Jimmy Greaves, Chelsea are struggling and fall to a 4-0 defeat against Blackpool.

Shot Of The Day Luton Town goalkeeper, Ron Baynham fails in a vain attempt to prevent an own goal and Chelsea score at Kenilworth Road on 17th October 1959. Bottom of the table Luton give a good account of themselves but it’s Chelsea who take the points with a 2-1 win.

Shot Of The Day Peter Osgood rifles a spectacular shot into the Arsenal net at Stamford Bridge on 17th March 1973. John Hollins also scores for Chelsea but the F.A. Cup 6th Round Tie ends in a 2-2 draw in front of a 36,992 gate.

On This Day 9th May 1987, Chelsea drew 3-3 with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in a Division 1 fixture. Gordon Durie, John Bumstead and David Speedie scored for Chelsea. Ian Rush, Steve McMahon and John Aldridge replied for Liverpool. The attendance was 29,245.

Shot Of The Day Kerry Dixon scores one of his two goals in Chelsea’s remarkable 5-3 win against Fulham at Craven Cottage on 8th October 1983. A bumper crowd of 24,787 is there to see the Division 2 eight goal thriller.

Shot Of The Day Bobby Smith is in the Fulham net, but sadly the ball isn’t there with him as Chelsea face their neighbours in a 5th Round F.A. Cup Replay at Craven Cottage on 14th February 1951. Fulham win a one sided game 3-0 after a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Shot Of The Day It’s a busy scene but Gustavo Poyet heads Chelsea’s late winner in the 2-1 victory over Charlton Athletic at Stamford Bridge on 17th October 1998. The win puts Chelsea in 4th place in the Premier League and they remain unbeaten since the opening day at Coventry.
