Quite a few anti-conifer anti- forestry posts doing the rounds at the minute, happens periodically. This is one of the reasons, among many, why we have conifer plantations and why they're a vital part of decarbonisation ⬇️ #positiveforestry

The right questions asked in this piece. Questions me and alot of others have been asking for along time. I'd be interested in Scottish government/FLS answers too and they must have some else the ministers, CEO etc wouldn't have all turned up just to cut ribbons and look good for the cameras.

🧵Continuing with #positiveforestry and a post from a couple of days ago, a bit more on plantation maintenance and why we do it and why we use the methods we use. The photo is a site we planted last winter consisting of mixed broadleaves and conifers.

One of the things I really need to get across is askong people to think before they say or do something and how that may effect somebody else. I don't think its much to ask. All aspects of forestry have their benefits and they all have to work hand in hand else nothing will work at all.

Wrong question, crap answer. Should have been what is being done to prevent mental health issues in the first place and the answer should have stop doing daft things and support farming and all other rural industries.

Correct. It's a constant battle to keep working every day. Alot of my energy is spent just keeping our heads above water let alone invest. There are many challenges facing forestry businesses but it would help alot if government backed our industry, and the people in it

I was out this morning walking before work. My route was mainly along rides through Forestry England commercial timber crops of Corsican and Scots Pine and Larch. I recorded 19 different bird species in about 15 minutes. Commercial forestry and conservation can go hand in hand.

If we want more lower carbon homes built this way, then we need more well managed forests to grow the timber & fibre. 🌲

This is a brilliant, positive piece about UK forestry, the future and how UK timber products can play a key role in improving the climate change situation. UK forestry does not promote its self enough but this piece sums things up in an informative and easily digestible way.

And the answer is plant. Excellent piece explaining in very simple terms what we need to grow and why. I'll add, as I always do, we need to support 'dirty hands' jobs in forestry now more than ever. Sustainability doesn't just mean environment it means people. #dirtyhandsjobs

Those that work in the forestry industry occur many pressures and stresses on a day to day basis and its increasing. Working in the sector is often incorrectly viewed by those on the outside through rose tinted glasses. Mental health is a growing and often ignored problem.

We need greater diversity in our UK forests - more diversity in age, species and in silviculture. To do that we need to be planting more forests on better soils, lower down the hill. Limiting commercial forestry to the poorest soils, limits what we can plant & how we manage it.
