Last week on Ancient Office Hours, Dr. @egarcmol.bsky.social, an Assistant Professor of Classics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, discussed specializing in the Seleucid Empire, challenges of working with limited historical records, and his course on gaming and ancient history.

Today was “syllabus day” for my ancient slavery course. On Thursday we will be discussing the definitional issue. Very much looking forward to that conversation with my students!

🎉 Today I defended my dissertation and passed with summa cum laude. The title is "Dependent Lives In and Beyond Archives: Enslaved People in Sephardic Jewish Households in Early Modern Bridgetown, Barbados (1654-1800)." The abstract is below, and I hope to publish it soon.

Do y’all prefer long footnotes or long endnotes? I’ll admit that I tend to prefer the former though am often distracted by them 🤣🤣.

The dissertation is dissertating. ‘Nough said.

I 100000% recommend watching this movie. It’s easily a 9.5/10. I would say it’s almost as good as Get Out (if you haven’t seen Get Out I cannot help you). Ryan Coogler’s best film to date!
