Writers, read far beyond your genre. So many essays & memoirs I’ve read lately sound exactly the same, or like imitations of Didion. It’s like trying to write dialogue after reading Elmore Leonard. Pick up something different between their pages & yours. Maybe try romance, a spy novel, or Faulkner!
