The good thing about the CD player is that I can hide it from the toddler, unlike the turntable below. Snaffled a live Talk Talk record, new Swans, old grinderman and some Steely Dan today.

It’s a real shame that writers are too cowardly to touch fatherhood. I’d buy the shit out of those books.

Most books I have read over the years are German novels and biographies from the 1920s and 1930s. To at least come closer, even if you can never really understand it. Here is my top 5. 🧵

Recommend this one. Great characters and amusing impressions of British village life. Also dark, weird, emotional.

I'm struggling to find good novels with father-son relationships as the core. There is The Road. Revealing that we have to go full post apocalyptic as a backdrop for such a relationship. Grief is a thing with Feathers is partly there, East of Eden has good relationships too. Anything else?

In the 1960s and '70s, The Worst People in the World (TM) didn't want to vaccinate Africans (etc) because they said it would lead to overpopulation. Then we did a bunch of research, and it turns out that reducing child mortality actually reduces population growth. 1/
