The CD cover latch on my Turbo Duo barely holds the lid down, often requiring several attempts to close it properly. Looks like rather than a spring it relies on this shitty plastic arm that obviously can bend over time. I could stick something in that gap or … go full OCD

Well over a decade ago I tried to recap a Turbo Duo with a single temp Radio Shack iron, no flux, and a horrible tutorial on YouTube. Due to leaky caps I pulled many many traces… I’ve had to live in shame ever since, but now the time has finally come to regain my honor!

I don’t like working on anything past the N64/PS1 generation as I’m a big clumsy gorilla of a man, but it looks like I revived my XBox by just replacing the few suspicious caps. This is ballsy but I’m going to go back and do the rest along with the PSU 😬

Got a Macintosh IIsi on the bench for a recap. Hot tweezers got into some really tight spots. Aside from the extremely fishy aromatics, getting the board ready for new caps went great. Pads are nice and shiny and willing to receive solder again!
